chickensconsigliere asks:
God. I can never resist an ask me anything post. And I never even have that good of a question. It’s like, all the possibilities start running through my head, I get overwhelmed and I just pick one. Usually an underwhelming one. So here it is: What is the song, when you hear it on the radio, that causes the biggest bout of nostalgia, the kind that actually makes your heart beat a little faster, your limbs tingle, and your heart ache for the past? (Mine is Moody Blues, “Wildest Dreams”). I used to have a huge crush on this guy, he had a band. He never sang Moody Blues, but he was a great guy, sang a lot of CSN. We were not intimate, but good friends. After he finished a gig, we would go back to my house and I’d put on the Moody Blues album and we would just talk. Also, my best friend in college introduced me to the album and we spent many a night listening and talking, so whenever I hear it, I think of those two, keepers of my secrets and my dreams, and I wonder where they are and if they still think about me, once upon a time, in their wildest dreams:-) I think of them often.

NA: That is a good question. I’d have to say I have several. “Miss American Pie” by Don McLean puts me in the backseat of my best friend’s mom’s car on our way to Mission Beach, CA for a last hurrah summer trip before my junior year of high school. I can close my eyes and feel the breeze and the sun on my face, hear the laughter from inside jokes, taste the salty air. It was one of my happiest moments.

“Hotel California” by the Eagles puts me in a van on my way to Mammoth for a ski trip my sophomore year of high school. I went with my boyfriend, his parents, and 2 other couples that we were friends with. I think I was listening to it on a Walkman and being introverted for some reason. It was my first trip to the mountains so I was very excited, thoughtful, etc.

Jeez, this is really making me think. I may have to write a whole post about songs that take me somewhere. Thanks!

Ferngoddess asks:
Do you believe in Ghost?

NA: Do you mean the movie with Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg and the late Patrick Swayze? Yes. And I cried when I saw it in theaters. If you mean supernatural spirits, not really.

Georgina asks:
What do you think of all the protests that are going on nationwide right now?

NA: I am definitely in the 99%. I firmly believe that there is a grossly unfair distribution of wealth. I believe in universal healthcare. Being sick shouldn’t force someone to choose between paying their rent and seeing a doctor. I believe that we are obligated as humans to pay our fair share, and if we have more, we should give more. I believe that the rich should pay more taxes. I believe that corporations should pay their fair share of taxes as well. I believe in freedom of speech, even when it isn’t something I want to hear. I believe in peaceful assembly. I am however torn when it comes to law enforcements’ role. I am not happy with how some of them are behaving and/or being told to behave. I do not like to hear about police harassment or excessive use of force as it makes the others look bad, when truthfully, like every other profession, most are doing their jobs, while a few make bad choices. I hope the decisions made by those in the wrong do not make things difficult for the Detective at some point. Or make things difficult for those honest, hard working officers that are just trying to do their jobs.
Also, the suicide that happened at Occupy Burlington breaks my heart for so many reasons, not least of which is that a man that sacrificed for his country felt so hopeless, but also because so many that were exercising their Constitutional rights were witness to it. Such a tragedy.

Georgina asks:
What is the B project? Something you are involved with?

NA: Just B was the photo project I did over the month of October showing kids and adults playing dress up and having fun. Feel free to go back and look at the various pics. I had so much fun with them and already have lots of ideas for next October. Though, I’m always open to suggestions so feel free to send me any ideas you may have.

Rachel asks:
I will ask my standard question – who is your BFF from college and exactly how awesome is she?

NA: Are you hoping I’ll change my mind? Are you tired of being my bestie? Are you trying to push me away? Too bad, Rachel. It is still you. I’m afraid you are stuck with me for at least 17 more years. Whoa? We are having our 17 year anniversary! And yes, you are very, very awesome! So much so that we’ve been friends for almost 2 decades.

Ok, this post is getting too long. I’ll answer some more of the questions tomorrow.

You answered my question - yay! I love you - I’m so glad we’ve been stuck together all these years.

  2. Barbara says:

All I can add (because I’m not in the frame of mind to type everything that I’ve thought of reading this post) is wait til you’re 62 and then I dare you to try & choose ONE song that fills you with memories. Or ONE scent. Or ONE season/day/month. That’s the beauty of long life-the more you get, the more fabulous (or sad or touching or joyful) memories you’ll have.

    • Barbara says:

Oh-like for instance, I was almost 14 on this day in 1963 when President Kennedy was assassinated, just 30 miles east of my high school. And my younger brother had sung for him and Jackie at breakfast that morning in Fort Worth.
