My father-in-law is one of my favorite people on this planet. And the shorties adore him. He is funny and kind. He can fix damn near anything. He will snuggle with the shorties and watch anything they want to. He will sit for hours and work puzzles with them. He will take Peanut to the store to pick out a dress and then lament how grown up she is. He will shuttle back and forth to soccer games. He will take off work to come to Grandparents’ Day. He will sit through an excruciatingly long talent show to see Peanut perform for 2 minutes. He will read mummy books to Boo that make him cringe. He will giggle at the jackassery that Squirt gets up to like trying to help the dog dig under the fence. He would do anything for us.
When I was in the throes of my pneumonia and the Detective had to go out of town for work, he and my mother-in-law brought over dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday, took both boys to their soccer pictures and games, kept them all day, had them spend the night, didn’t bring them home until Sunday evening, with dinner, and then my father-in-law did our dishes and took the trash and recycling to the curb. Can you believe it? How did I get so fortunate?
Plus, he will put on wigs and glasses and costumes for hours because I asked him to. And because the shorties found it to be hilarious. I love this photo because it shows how much Boo loves his Papa. He has his arm around his shoulder, his little eyes closed, and trying to keep his wax lips in because he was laughing so hard at my father-in-law’s antics. Plus, Papa is wearing a tiara.
And as if that wasn’t enough, he produced this little gem, a photo of him from about 40 years ago:
I love this man, and I cannot tell you how lucky I am to have the family that I do.

Love this pic! Love the description of your Father in Law - and I totally love the Love that shines through all your posts.
I am envious. You are so blessed!
My husband’s mother passed away while he was a young man and his father died several years ago. I never got to meet them. So I don’t really have any parent in-laws. I often wonder what it would be like if I did.
Instead, my husband has adopted my family and loves them as his own. I think they help fill a hole in his heart. :)
super cool! :)
i am quite envious!! you are beyond blessed!!
I also have awesome in-laws! Make life that much sweeter, doesn’t it!
dressing up is in the family’s blood! ;-p
You are so very lucky to have a FIL like that. My grandfather is very much like that and so is my step dad. Even so I wish my dad and FIL made that kind of effort.
yes you are, blessed to have them. But never forget how very blessed they are to have you. Love the wax lips & Tiara, what a pair they are!!
