Getting To Know Me - Do You See What I See?

Posted: June 22, 2011 by Cop's Wife in getting to know cop's wife

Here is a partial list of things I really enjoy looking at. It is not all-inclusive as none of these is.

this painting by Travis McElhany and Erick Warner titled NUMBER TWENTY ONE in their TAG Series:

the look of Main Street when driving into the small Oklahoma town in which my dad lives
my sleeping shorties
pretty stationery - I love nice thick notecards and such
an office supply store - I could spend hours, maybe days, in one.
when I catch the shorties snuggling and/or generally getting along and being sweet to each other
the ocean - it always reminds me how small I am
a backyard garden - especially those of my in-laws’
letters, type, fonts - I love words:

peonies - my favorite flowers
a fresh pedicure
crowds - I love to people watch and make up stories in my head for people
tweets to me
my mom’s condo - she has the best taste and aesthetic of anyone I know
the Detective when he gets home from work, also when he’s telling a story and laughing
etsy.com, especially this seller‘s work
this sign in my room next to my reading chair:

kids running through sprinklers
Peanut playing soccer - she is so focused, determined, and strong (on and off the field)
an empty inbox
the mug in front of the coffee maker that the Detective leaves for me in the mornings
art by my shorties:

a package being delivered
the possibilities of a blank sheet of paper
my smiling shorties
True Blood - purrrrrrr
a stack of books - used, new, library doesn’t matter:

Squirt in his glasses - he is so damn cute (and ornery)
a summer thunderstorm
people when they don’t know anyone is watching - especially shorties
my PO Box filled with mail - ok, this isn’t technically true as it never has been full, but I imagine I would love it if I actually started to receive some mail there.
my friends’ faces - I don’t get to see them enough, but I love it when I do
freshly fallen snow - before it gets trampled and dirty
this charm bracelet - I plan to give it to Peanut for some significant life event. I’ve been getting charms here and there that represent milestones in her lifetime:

What are some of the things you never get tired of seeing?

Wow, this list looks a lot like mine, except for your Mom’s condo and the Detective.
My favorite’s are the first snowfall of the year, the view from 70 coming East into KC during the Fall(gorgeous blanket of trees with the city popping up!), my little girl in her Cinderellla dress and the shoes of course; a book you can’t put down and will go to work with toothpicks holding your eyelids up just to get through the damn thing at night; the Atlantic at night; Lake Michigan sunsets; phrases that my 3 year old comes up with(where in the HELL did you hear that?); pre school shopping spree…like you I could spend hours in the paper and related goods aisle; good carpeting, 4:45 pm on any given Friday; Sangria! I could go on and on! LOL Awesome blog by the way…you are on my list!

Funny, many of my favourite things to look at are also on your list. :)

    - my son … sleeping, smiling, climbing, lego-ing, dancing … just about anything he does is worth looking at
    - the ocean, or even the Great Lakes
    - a campfire
    - books .. I used to spend hours hidden in the stacks at our local research library
    - the internet … I love how it works like books: one page leads to the next, one author leads to another, one blurb makes you want to read more and more and more
    - the intricacies of flowers
    - old photos, heck, even new photos, depending on what they are of and what I’m in the mood to look at
    - people’s hands
    - a certain someone .. laughing, talking, folding laundry, thinking, cooking, driving ….

Spotty Chops face when he sleeps, smiles, laughs. My father’s face when Spotty is snuggled up against him. A beach in the moonlight. Tulips, my mom’s favorite. Dragonsnaps, because when my bro and I were littles my da would chase us around the yard making the “dragon roar”. A field of wildflowers, just because. A fire in a campsite. The stars seen from anywhere away from a city. A newborn baby. A room my mom “stages”, so clean and inviting (so unlike the clutter filled mess I live in.) The view from THE PORCH, alas it is no more but it remains in our memories. A bookstore. Ice cream. Old couples holding hands. I agree with Cheesecake, men with children holding hands. Photos of Boytoy and Spotty walking away from me. The view when we are driving up to the white mountains on Memorial Day, after that dip in the highway when the mountains “just appear”.

    I love seeing:
    My childrens sleeping faces.
    Eiffel tower photos
    Black and white photos
    White teeth
City lights, especially in the rain
    Christmas trees
    Anything Coach
    Painted toe nails
    My daughters art
    Pretty handwriting
Movies that take place in new York (Bronx tale is my all time favorite movie)
    Clean, modern looking homes
    Freshly mowed grass
    Money
My husband, kids and friends laughing
My husband in the summer. He gets really tan
Latte art (the designs baristas make in the foam)
    Abstract art
    New clothes

    I love:
Watch people and make up some crazy stories in my head about them.
Watch a great sunrise when you think that the world is just dead and you aren’t quite a wake.
Receive a really great email that makes you smile uncontrollably.
    Watch a great sunset, too.
Getting the feeling of accomplishment when you do a great workout.
Seeing my dogs and cats when I have been traveling even though they are mad at me for leaving.
Knowing that I can travel on my own.
Picking out my own decor after years of being married and having it decided for me.
Living on my own for the first time ever in my life.
Having a few beers with some great friends that stuck by my side when I was emotionally falling apart.
    Geting presents.
    Giving presents.
Listening to a song that really gets in to your soul and that matches what is going on with you.
Seeing an old friend at the end of August.
Climbing the top of a mountain for the first time when you thought you weren’t going to make it (even if it’s 2,000 ft) and then finding out that your friend just popped her cherry making it to the top for her first time, as well (and there are pictures).

There’s more, but these really hit home to me right now.

I have a charm bracelet that I have had since I was young. It has a couple of charms on there from my mother’s charm bracelet. I planned to give it to one of my nieces, but I have to figure out which one gets it. Decisions.

  6. DeAnne says:

    I Love looking at
My sons sleepy smile in the morning
His hand in mine when he has a bad dream and comes into my bed
seeing a “item sold” email in my email from ETSY
    my stack(s) of books
seeing a client tear up when I make them some special piece of jewelry
the first glimpse of beach when we walk over the dunes

  7. I never get tired of:
    seeing KitKat curled up, asleep, with her left paw covering her face like she’s hiding;
    a brand new, blank, fresh empty notebook—so full of possibility;
    the eyes-glazed, other-wordly look i’ve seen on a few people’s faces when they’ve tried one of my cheesecakes for the first time;
    BigSmooth’s “Prayer of St Michael” tattoo—let’s me know that even though my youngest is eschewing religion for now he hasn’t forgotten spirituality;
books…esp paperback books….such a staple in my world
Vincent D’Onofrio—his portrayal of the gloriously, thoroughly, heartbreakeningly flawed Detective Goren is nothing short of magnificent
fathers walking down the street with their little kids—esp the dads that don’t look like Beaver’s dad….something soul-satisfying of seeing someone tatted & dredded & thugged out holding a little hand
    old linens
my parents smile & wave as i leave after another visit

  8. I thought you might appreciate this, regarding your stacks of books. I found a vintage owl lamp with a barrel shade (probably from the early 70′s) and placed it on a stack of murder mystery books to create the “Woooo-dunnit” corner. I also stacked books that were red, green, yellow and black to match our striped Pendleton Glacier Park blanket in the bedroom. Both of these I just love to look at. Check out my food blog at eveningswithpeter.com and hopefully you can add that to your list of things you like to look at too!

    Best,

    Peter
