Tastes I love:
Roasted asparagus
Tecate beer from Las Cascadas Mexican Restaurant in Davis, OK [they somehow grind up the pulp from limes and line the rim of the chilled mug with it. If someone knows how to do that, message me. Now.]
Frosty beer [when it is a little slushy]
Dark-chocolate covered pomegranate from Costco
Avocado and a good guacamole
Chips and salsa
Steak ‘n Shake chili
Chocolate covered raspberries
Gianduja ice cream from Poppy’s
Pineapple margaritas [Thanks for the recipe, Mom!]
Cream soda
Sugar Raised doughnut from Lamar’s
Movie theater popcorn
Pickles
Raspberry/jalapeno compote with cream cheese on crackers [Thanks for introducing me to it, Red!]
Babe’s beef tamales
Radishes
Fresh picked strawberries that are still warm from the sun
Sticky Toffee Pudding
The Detective’s Beer Can Chickens
Damn near anything my mother prepares
Pez
Fun Dip
Crab legs with butter
Freshly made dill dip
Home made chocolate chip cookie dough before you put the chips in [I'm a freak. If you are just figuring this out, I'm sorry. I try to be very upfront about it.]
Big, doughy, salty pretzels
Stadium/circus/carnival/amusement park foods: pickles on a stick, funnel cake, nachos, etc
Tastes I do not love:
Brussel sprouts
Strong-flavored beer [This fact drives the Detective crazy as he loves to drink and brew strong beers.]
Oatmeal [the texture weirds me out]
Limp veggies like canned green beans
Most cooked veggies [like raw carrots just fine, but not mushy cooked ones]
Nuts if they are in anything [I like some by themselves, but not cooked in brownies etc.]
Blood [after having my wisdom teeth out a few years ago, I swallowed a lot, and it was g-ross]
Orange flavored anything [though I like actual oranges]
What are your favorites? Least favorites? Strangest?

I love chocolate chip cookie dough without chocolate chips too! Sometimes I make the dough just to nibble at it and not because I want cookies;)
I like:
chocolate with bacon in it - yes, you can get it.
chocolate with sea salt - obsessed.
bacon with yogurt
I have a sweet and savory thing going on, ya think?
I dislike:
anything picked, including but not limited to: pickles, those little corns, eggs, stuff on salad bars, etc.
I too love the cookie dough before the chips are added. I will buy cookie dough from Papa Murphy’s Pizza and eat the dough and put the chips aside for my husband. It works out great. :D
I had an aversion to fake cherry flavoring that was probably learned from exposure to flavored fluoride treatments at the hands of a clumsy dentist. The aversion was pretty severe - I could spit out an accidentally tasted hard candy, but trying to get rid of it by swallowing it would send me retching to a toilet.
Once it (naturally) started to fade, it didn’t take that long to decondition it completely. If I’d known, I would have done it much earlier in life and more systematically. (Not that I was really missing a fine flavor, but it’s nice to be able to sample a jello at a buffet without risking having to spit something out. Also very nice to be able to use guiafenesin syrup when I need it.)
The theory is just (I think) that you dilute to the point where you can taste it, but you don’t gag or suffer significant distress, then you repeat exposures at that level, and expect 10-20 uneventful exposures to be sufficient.
Yes- beer butt chicken. My mother got the recipe from some officers (she’s in law enforcement too)- it was the only thing they could cook when out hunting and wife-less. =) We’ve modified our recipe over the years, but it’s still the juiciest and easiest way to cook a whole bird.
Favorite flavor- black licorice. I can say no to any other candy, but give me a bag of black jellybeans and I’m done for. Of course, garlic has to have an honorable mention- it’s a food group unto it’s own in my house. Also- I believe that almost every savory dish can be improved on with fresh cracked pepper.
Least favorite- cumin. I know, weird- but it was such a relief when I realized that there was plenty of awesome Mexican food, as long as the cumin was under control. It smells like dirty gym socks to me.
Strangest- that’s tough. Not that it’s that weird, but I do make and devour my own sauerkraut. Some folks think it strange…
Love:
Bacon!!!
Pot sticker sauce
Coffee
Red velvet cupcakes
Bell peppers
Onions
Yogurt
Vinegar-y foods
Greek lamb
Cucumbers
Sushi
Macadamia nuts
Whiskey
Hate:
Mushrooms
Hot pineapple (on pizza) nasty!
Bone-in meat
Salt
Jello
Melon!
Seafood
Seaweed (weird that I like sushi)
Dessert cheese
Wine
Champagne
Micro brews
I love Sushi, steak, garlic salt on anything, crawfish (spicier the better and weirdly the only thing that I eat spicy), the way I prepare spaghetti, grilled corn, miso soup, salman sashimi, edamame, chic-fil-a chicken sandwich and their waffle fries, cheese, cheese, and more cheese (I’m a mouse), ice cold beer (wheat beers and Bud Light), one coke a day for my coffee, tuna, beef stew, strogonoff, gravy steaks, grilled asparagus, sauteed green beans, pickles, dark chocolate raspberry anything (even though I’m normally not a dark chocolate fan, Pho 95 spring rolls, pappadeaux fried crabfingers, twizzlers, and so much more that I can’t think of right now.
Weird things I eat: Tuna sammiches with mayo and pickles only, Whataburger chicken sammich with mayo and pickles only, jack n box egg rolls (even though I’m a snob about eggrolls and chinese food, but I love these), fried pickles, dinty more beef stew when I’m sick (and it’s so unhealthy for you), and Grill Chicken Ceasar wrap with only chicken, dressing, and cheese.
Things I hate: Cilantro (I’m even part of the ihatecilantro.com site), jalopenos, spicy things, lettuce, tomato and onions on any of my sammiches (but I love salads), mangos unless it’s mango sushi roll from John Hollys in Denver, honey dew melon and cantaloupe, grapefruit, milk on it’s own, whole milk, rare steak or any steak that shows blood, oysters, butter on popcorn, Chinese food in America (had food poisoning for 3-4 days and I haven’t been able to eat Chinese food since), and lamb.
Tastes I love
Sushi - the fishy-er the better
Bacon - Chocolate covered bacon even better
a good strong cheese - Dubliner, Locatelli Parmasean Romano, and Gorgonzola
Jalepeno Cheddar Bagels toasted with cream cheese and strawberry preserves
Fresh veggies - just say no to canned or frozen
A perfectly cooked Rib-eye steak - the bloodier the better
Salt and Vinegar Chips
Prawn Toast
Pizza cooked out on the grill
Tastes I do not like -
Peas - I can eat pea soup, I can eat peas in Fried rice but a bowl of peas and onions makes me retch. The smell of peas cooking is I think one of the most sickening smells ever.
Uh oh. We might not be able to be friends after all. I love EVERYTHING orange flavored.
:D
Oh, until you’ve grilled some asparagus on charcoal, you haven’t lived. I make an aluminum “tray” out of foil, put my cleaned and trimmed FRESH asparagus on it with a pat or two of butter, a drizzle of olive oil, some kosher salt and black pepper. When what-ever you’re grilling (pork, beef, chickie, whatever) is almost done, throw that tray in the grill - oh maybe 5 mins or so - to heat the asparagus through some. Once you’ve pulled all your meats off, dump the tray out over the still hot coals (make sure the asparagii are perpendicular too, NOT parallel with, the grill). Let them char a bit - toss ‘em around a bit to char the other “sides” - serve hot. Died and gone to heaven good.
Fruits and vegetables should never, ever, come from a can. Fresh if available, frozen if you have to.
Lamb. Or sometimes I like lamb. Then again, some grilled lamb with rosemary is good. Did I mention lamb?
That and a nice red…
Ah, damn. I guess we can’t be friends - I don’t like movie popcorn, Pez or Lamar’s (and yes, I realized I should hand in my Kansas City card. I hang my head in shame.)
Wait. Maybe there is hope - I would give up one of my kids for a good pickle, guacamole or crab leg.
Side note: I used to HATE dill dip until my sister brought a FRESH one to our Christmas party. Oh my.
Some of my favourites:
-Tradre Joe’s salsa
-My mom’s homemade stew
-fresh fruit
-olives
-almost anything pickled (aside from eggs which I can’t bring myself to try). I love pickles so much that I actually read your “fresh picked strawberries” as fresh pickled strawberries and thought “hmmm…never tried those, wonder where I can get me some?” On reflection that might be pretty nasty.
-cheese, cheese and more cheese
My only real strong dislike is peas unless they are fresh, raw and still in the pod.
I’m pregnant but have not had any bizarre cravings during my pregnancy. I do however have a few strange favs that I discovered pre-pregnancy:
-peanut butter and bacon on toast
-deep fried pickles
-oreos and cheddar cheese
I too am a freak.
Would love to know the recipe for Pineapple Margaritas! I love both of those, so combined I can only imagine they’d be delish! :)
So funny. I just made roasted asparagus last night. YUMMMM! Ever try roasting it with a balsamic vinagrette marinade first? Heaven on earth.
I also love oranges, but hate anything “orange flavored.” Same goes for bananas and banana-flavored things. Yuck. But nanners are great.
Also hate dark beers, married to a man who loves ‘em.
Also hate the taste of blood, and hate limp veggies. Love raw carrots-only like them cooked if I cook them (with ginger) so they’re still crisp.
Pomegranates are probably my favorite thing in the universe, but unfortunately we don’t have a costco close enough to make membership worthwhile (an hour drive), so I didn’t know that anyone covers pomegranate in chocolate. Can’t even imagine how they’d do it! But OH, how I’d love to find out! Seriously considering joining, just so I can check that out!
It’s funny, but I actually like everything you like with the exceptions of the personal stuff and anything that is made with mammal-meat. I don’t eat my fellow mammals. Looooooooooooove to eat the birdies though. My mom’s turkey is the best on the planet, and my husband’s chicken is a very close second.
Tastes I love that aren’t on your list: Ginger. I love it in almost anything. Hagen Dazs makes a ginger ice cream that I could die for. I love Vernors because it tastes like a cross between my two favorite drinks, ginger ale and cream soda. Lemongrass in veggie dishes. Black licorice is one of those things people either love or hate. I’m a lover. Same with olives and mushrooms.
Pizza with black and green olives, onions, mushrooms and banana peppers is the ultimate deliciousness.
I like onions but I hate scallions-it’s the texture-feels like chewing paper.
I love Gimme Lean sausage style fake meat. Hmmmmmm. So yummy, and no animals had to die for it. We use it to make sausage patties, “meat”balls, on pizza, and “meat” sauce. My 8-yr-old who eats real meat, and has had real meat balls likes the taste of the fake meat balls better, and believe it or not, so does my hubby who is not veggie at all-total meat and potatoes guy.
Probably my favorite taste right now is Chobani Pineapple yogurt. Or maybe their peach. But there is no brand of yogurt that compares to the taste and texture of Chobani. I eat about two a day, and when I’m down to only six in the fridge, I know it’s time to buy more! Never even liked yogurt until I found that stuff.
