I know that we are all incredibly busy and stretched a bit thin this time of year. And for most of the year in general. But if you have a moment and possibly a few extra dollars, please read on.
One of the Detective’s good friends does something really crazy each winter. He participates in the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. But he doesn’t just plunge once, he’s a Super Plunger (once an hour, every hour for a day.) That’s 24 times for those math-challenged. 24 TIMES! If you are at all familiar with the weather in Missouri, you know it is brutal in the winter.
He is one of the top fundraisers in the area and takes part in this self-inflicted torture for a cause close to his heart. He doesn’t complain, he doesn’t pressure, he just does it. I have several friends and family members that have athletes in their circles. The Special Olympics are an amazing organization, and like everyone, could use a little help.
This season’s Plunge takes place on January 28, 2011.
If you have an dollar or 2, please consider a donation. And tell him Cop’s Wife sent you. ;)
Big Head’s fund-raising page can be found here.
We used to have people do that when we lived in Mpls. Brrrrr he is a brave man! We donate annually to the SO.
SO is such a great cause, isn’t it? Thanks for supporting them and reading the blog.
I posted this over at the link as well, but for everyone who donates at least $7 to the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics will receive a free 4×6 digital design from http://www.yourlittlestinker.com This will account for 100% of my profit. This cause is very close to my heart and I would like to pay it forward for all that have helped me. If you donate at least this, email me at [email protected] along with the donation amount and your name so it can be verified of course and you order away!
You. Are. Awesome. Thanks!
Love your blog. I sprang for a whole 50 cents a plunge. Sorry it couldn’t be more.
Everything counts. Every penny, every dollar, every kind word. It all matters. Thank you so much!
God bless him! I used to volunteer for the polar plunge in my area, and I have so much respect for those people.
They are a little bit crazy and lot bit awesome.
Thank you SO MUCH for spreading the word. The Special Olympics is a wonderful organizatioin and helps so many achieve acceptance and allow the Athletes to enjoy sports and competition. I attended my first event in early 2000 and was blow away by the organization and athletes. I was hooked.
I am blessed to do a job I love and I have enjoyed many wonderful opportunities in life, so giving back was a “no brainer.” Now, jumping into freezing waters of Longview Lake 24 times in 24 hours, I just did not use my brains - LOL. But then again, Cops aren’t known for brain power.
Seriously, these athletes challenge themselves daily so challengin myself for 24 times in 24 hours is the least I can do to count my blessings in life. Life is about making a difference the in the lives of others, so thank you for bloging about my event. And thank you in advance to anyone who took the time to read this blog, look at my website, make a donation or spread the word! You guys are the real heros, I am just the fool who jumps in the lake. So please join TEAM BIGHEAD any way you can.
Hey - that’s my birthday! I’m celebrating with a contribution. Anyone dumb enough to take the plunge 24 times deserves some support, fiscal if not psychiatric!
You are awesome! Thanks so much. And have a toast to Big Head on your birthday, and I’ll have one for you!
I went by and told him you sent me. :) Great cause to support.
So very generous. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
