Way late, but this works for us every time, it’s cheap, organic, safe, humane and doesn’t kill anything or put pets and children at risk. Ground up cayenne pepper. You can pick it up at your local grocery for a couple of bucks. Sprinkle it along their ‘trail’. It causes their feet and their antennae to feel like they’re burning. They’re out by the next day, every time. :)
Maybe you could leave about ten Jolly Ranchers outside of the house, and then they’ll all hang out around the Jolly Ranchers, rather than come into a (perhaps) hard candy-free house.
Chris and I were having ant trouble (they were everywhere including the ceiling) and we bought ant traps and hid them in hard to reach places. We have yet to have another invasion.
I may be a little late, but find where they are coming in and poison the hell out of it. Not a bi fan of raid but if you raid long enough, they stop coming back.
Cinnamon! Black pepper works too. Put cinnamon around any cracks or doors where they creep in. They won’t cross it, it smells nice, and it won’t hurt anything.
I’ve had good luck with Terro. It’s a liquid syrup that you pour onto little pieces of cardboard and leave around for them to eat and take back to their nests.
Ugh. Ants are such a pain! In the past, I’ve had luck with Terro liquid. You set some out for the little buggers and they carry it back to their nest, where it kills them. It takes a few days to work, but at least you’re not spraying poisonous chemicals around the kids.
Ants walk in straight lines from their nest, find the hole leading from inside your house to the outside nest and fill it (caulk is a good choice here). No more ant problems, period. Chemicals whether natural or not are only a temporary solution. If the hole is somewhere unreachable sweet traps are a decent alternative.

I know that they like the green apple ones.

Diatomaceous Earth. just sprinkle it along any cracks they may be coming through. Instant death! and nontoxic. kills other crawling bugs too.
