So I’ve actually been doing some stuff for Lent this year. I gave up soda. And I’m not loving it. I don’t actually like water or tea or juice or anything other than soda. But it is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’ve made it two weeks so far, and it hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it would be. I have probably made it harder than necessary as I didn’t get rid of any of the soda we have around the house. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve been tempted on a few occasions. Seeing that ice cold Mug Root Beer staring at me from the shelf is tough.

Full disclosure: since Sundays are not meant to be days of fasting during Lent, they are not included in the 40 days. Sundays are meant to be mini-celebrations leading up to the big celebration of Easter Sunday. So I did have one the first Sunday. And 1.5 last Sunday.

I haven’t decided to give it up forever. I may just limit myself to one every so often or allow myself to have them when I go out to eat. But I’m glad to know that, at least so far, I do have the willpower to forgo the main beverage of my life since I was weaned off of formula.

I’ve also been doing the no meat on Fridays things. We had clam chowder the first one and went to a Catholic church fish fry on the second. I really liked the fish fry. They had baked fish, fired tilapia, butterfly shrimp, salad, coleslaw, homemade mac and cheese, baked potatoes, broccoli with cheese, corn, garlic bread, iced tea, regular and decaf coffee, and lemonade. For a donation, a choice of a ton of desserts from cookies to lemon bars to cake to cupcakes to rice krispie treats. Adults were $9, kids $4, and Slim was free. The Detective and Peanut had to get to go boxes as she needed to go to soccer practice. So it was just me and the boys at the table. Man, old people LOVE little kids. They could do no wrong. And Bubba fits right in with his weird habits and hypochondria. We may go hang out there every Friday.

Yay, good for you on giving up soda! …and the not eating meat thing on Friday, that’s great, too, I haven’t even done that very well - think I had turkey sandwiches on both of the last two Fridays! This week, I’ll do it though!

…oh, and I was supposed to be going to mass every Sunday and I haven’t even made it ONCE yet. What’s wrong with me??? It’s ONE hour per week. Ugh.

Good girl! (Did that sound like I was talking to a dog? Sorry.) I gave up coke for the year and it was hard at first too.

Also, I like the idea of having a vegetarian meal once a week. Maybe we’ll try that too, lent or no lent.
