Candyland has always been a favorite of my kids. Well, at least the 2 that are able to play games. I do not love it. I am way too advanced to play such a simpleton game. My mother, on the other hand, actually does have the patience to play. Or so she claims. While she was here for Thanksgiving, Bubba broke out the board to play a game with Granny.
And things started out pretty well. He takes a little while to get the main rules of play, but then dives right in. He likes finding the colors and counting the spaces. He likes telling other people what to do.
And then he starts losing. Or so he thinks. He then starts checking upcoming cards to see which may benefit him the most. You may know that particular move as “cheating.”
Peanut tries to explain things. See her finger firmly pushing into the board? That is her telling him where he should be and what he is doing wrong. She excels at that.
Well things went downhill quickly at this point. Granny became mad that Bubba was a cheater, Bubba was mad that Peanut was bossing him around when she wasn’t even playing, Peanut was mad that she can’t have a Papasan chair in her room, and Cop’s Wife was mad that they were all making so much noise.
BTW - Peanut used to cheat like crazy and throw a fit if she lost too. It must be inherited from the Detective’s side.
“It must be inherited from the Detective’s side.” hahahaha. Gosh, I love your blog.
Shawn and I always wonder what we’ll do when it comes time to play games with Jackson. I know that I am way to competitive to “let” someone win, even if it is my son. I just simply don’t know that I have it in me. I can just imagine getting to the final spot on candy land, jumping up in victory and shouting “Suck it losers.”
