Nerdy Apple Bottom

And now, why the hell is this thing named “Nerdy Apple Bottom?”

Lame story, but much funnier told in person.

I was sick. Almost dying from the damn flu that’s gone around all winter. My head was thick, my muscles ached, my fever was sweating its way through my blood. I was miserable. The Detective made me soup. I could barely keep it down, but hadn’t eaten anything in 48 hours. I sipped the broth and attempted a few noodles. I looked up and the Detective was standing at the sink, rinsing a bowl, and talking to me. I listened. I was confused. He’d just said, “Nerdy Apple Bottom.”
WHAT?
“Nerdy Apple Bottom.”
I shook my head, made the quizzical eyebrow furrow and repeated, “WHAT?”
“Nerdy Apple Bottom!” Now it seemed he was angry. He was yelling it at me and flourishing this newly cleaned bowl in front of my face.
Finally, I just looked up with defeat and said, “Nerdy Apple Bottom.”
He paused… looked at me and said, “WHAT?”
I said, ” I don’t know what you are saying to me. Nerdy Apple Bottom doesn’t make any sense.”
He replied,”No it doesn’t. I’ve been trying to tell you that I didn’t want to dirty another bowl.”

Nerdy Apple Bottom = Didn’t want to dirty another bowl

Go figure.

Now it’s become a family slang term for I don’t know what you are talking about.

We also say “googledygort” instead of “bless you” when someone sneezes and “that’s nuts on butter” when something is crazy.

Oh and Bubba has recently turned “dagnabit” into “dad’s nuggets!” which is said with much conviction.
